70th Anniversary Edition.
Dan Morgan was a real man, real as the long rifle tucked under his arm, real as the long trails he followed. This is his story, but it is more than an exciting tale of adventure about a bold, brave man in buckskins. It is also the story of the long rifle that helped settle our country and that played its part in winning our freedom.
Unabridged text with numerous illustrations by Jack Merryweather and maps by Carl A. Anderson. Originally publisher in 1955 by Wheeler, as part of the American Adventure Series.
We're proud to have been given permission by David Wright to use his painting American Rifleman on our cover. David is a premier artist of the American frontier whose paintings depict historical subjects with deeply researched accuracy and detail.
David introduced me to the Le Mayeur hunting jacket, shown below. These photos came from Caring for Textiles, the company which restored the jacket in 2016 for The Valentine Museum in Richmond, Virginia. It was made in 1790 for French dentist Dr. Jean Pierre Le Mayeur, he practiced in New York and became a great friend of General and later President Washington, and his family. He visited Mount Vernon many times, shown in the records of their correspondence.
