Jay Williams was an American author born in Buffalo, New York, in 1914. Growing up as the son of a vaudeville show producer led him to pursue a career in acting and later as a comedian. His attention turned to writing as a full-time career after his discharge from the Army in 1945. Williams is best known for his young adult Danny Dunn science fiction/fantasy series which he co-authored with Raymond Abrashkin. He was a prolific author, also writing under the pen name of Michael Delving, of at least 79 books, including picture books, children’s novels, mysteries, nonfiction, historical novels and one play. He collaborated on nine picture books with illustrator Friso Henstra. Williams died in England at the age of 64.
