When I was a little girl I wanted to grow up to “make books for boys and girls.” In 1983 that dream came true when, after seven years of collecting “encouraging rejections,” Taste the Raindrops was published by Greenwillow Books. Now, some seventy books later, though I am happy to do a project that falls in my lap as another Curious George book did recently, I am basically retired. I am so grateful for the opportunities I have had to follow this deeply fulfilling calling, to do this creative work that touches the hearts of others. One of my greatest joys is to hear about a child choosing one of my books over and over, or that a now grown-up still has fond memories of a special book.
